At this point it’s fairly common knowledge that the FDA has plans for e-cigarettes. What’s not quite as clear is what those plans are.
While the FDA has issued statements that they intend to propose “deeming” regulations on cigarettes, that raises a lot more questions. What components? How restrictive will regulations be? What the heck is “deeming?”
CASAA posted a page on their site Wednesday that does a very thorough, clear job of explaining what we know so far, where things are likely to go, and what deeming regulations could mean for all of us.
Incidentally, in case you don’t check it out and you’re still wondering, “deeming” would be a process whereby the FDA would treat e-cigarettes as tobacco products (deeming them to be in the same class as cigarettes), even though they are not. Class dismissed.
